On the SAT, you’ll find sentences that are wrong because a verb is in the wrong tense. English has six tenses, and each has a simple form and a progressive form. Use the present tense to describe a state or action occurring in the present time.

              E.g. I am a student.

              E.g. The are studying the Holy Roman Empire.

Use the present tense to describe habitual action.

              E.g. They eat at Joe’s Diner every night.

              E.g. My father never drinks coffee.

Use the present tense to describe things that ar always true.

              E.g. Earth is round.

              E.g. Grass is green.
