An adjective modifies or describes a noun or pronoun.
E.g. a woman in a white dress stood next to the old tree.
E.g. The boat, leaky and dirty, hadn’t been used in years.
An adverb modifies a verb, an adjective, or another adverb. Most, but not all, adverbs end in -ly.
E.g. The interviewer looked approvingly at the neatly dressed applicant.
